Louis Vuitton Covers Famous Landmarks With AR Dots
See iconic locations like the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty like never before with immersive technology.
World-renowned fashion house Louis Vuitton has partnered with acclaimed Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama on a colorful new campaign powered by augmented reality (AR) technology, according to Vogue Business. Using Snap’s Landmarker Lenses, which allows developers to create Lens experiences tied to specific real-world locations, select users can layer virtual polka dots over a variety of famous architectural landmarks across the globe.
This includes historic sites such as the Arc de Triomphe, the Eiffel Tower, London’s National Gallery, the Natural History Museum, the Statue of Liberty, and Tower Bridge. Those lucky enough to find themselves near one of these famous landmarks can use their smartphone to project red, blue, yellow, green, and white dots over the real world. The design is based on Louis Vuitton’s physical storefronts and leather products.
“We wanted to make something on a huge scale, that also has a huge meaning: painting the world’s biggest landmarks and monuments is also a statement, the same way that Louis Vuitton painted their boutiques and stores,” said Geoffrey Perez, head of luxury at Snap, according to Vogue Business. “It’s a way for the Louis Vuitton and Kusama teams to show the bridge between online and offline; they’re digitally painting their dots on top of the real world.”
