Enterprise VR gets an upgrade in the form of a new standalone device.
Multinational technology company Lenovo today unveiled the ThinkReality VRX, an all-in-one mixed reality headset designed for businesses. The enterprise-focused device boasts high-resolution colored passthrough, advanced pancake (folded) optics, and supports cloud-based rendering solutions like NVIDIA CloudXR.
As previously mentioned, the ThinkReality VRX is an all-in-one headset, which means no additional hardware is required in order to operate the device. That said, you do have the ability to connect the device to a PC or other workstation to stream more demanding VR/AR experiences, making it a powerful tool for businesses looking to optimize worker performance.
While the company has yet to share any detailed information regarding specs, we do know that the device features four onboard cameras which provide inside-out tracking as well as a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR chipset. The device can deliver full VR experiences as well as project virtual content over the real world.
“The Lenovo ThinkReality VRX is built to be the VR solution for workers everywhere. The immediacy and fidelity of new digital tools experienced through extended reality (XR) devices means workforces are becoming nearly unconstrained by time and space,” said Lenovo in an official press release.
“From improving efficiency in employee training and virtual collaboration to expanding design and engineering tasks in 3D, XR technologies are becoming more important than ever for businesses enabling hybrid workers to do more.”
“Our customers are looking for reliable, flexible, and scalable gateways into the growing Enterprise Metaverse. They need business-class solutions for the new realities of working in hybrid scenarios and virtual environments” said Vishal Shah, GM of XR and Metaverse, Lenovo. “We engineered the Lenovo ThinkReality VRX to be the VR solution of choice for training and collaborating in immersive 3D.”
Early partners can get their hands on the Lenovo ThinkReality VRX towards the end of the year. According to the company, the device will be available for purchase by the general public in select markets beginning in early 2022.
