HTC’s VR/AR Headset Will Be Revealed At CES 2023
The mixed reality device will supposedly feature a lightweight design as well as support for hand-tracking.
This week it was announced that HTC will be unveiling a new consumer-friendly VR headset next month during CES 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada. First reported by The Verge, the all-in-one VR device is apparently being positioned as a direct competitor to Meta Quest Pro.
“It’s about taking all of these advances that we made in not only the design aspects, but also the technology aspects, and building it into something that’s meaningful and that’s appealing for consumers,” said Shen Ye, global head of product at HTC during an interview with The Verge.
According to the report, the mysterious standalone device will feature support for both VR as well as augmented reality (AR) experiences. Front and side-facing cameras will offer full-color mixed reality similar to that of Meta Quest Pro. You can even plug the device into a VR-ready PC to access more powerful content.
Not only that, but you’ll also be able to interact with games and apps using your bare hands thanks to built-in hand-tracking. Shen Ye said that the device is designed for gaming, entertainment, and fitness as well as productivity and enterprise.
Here are a few key features (according to The Verge):
Full-color mixed reality
2-hour battery life
6 degrees-of-freedom (6DoF)
A depth sensor for more complex room mapping
According to a report by XR hardware analyst Brad Lynch, the lightweight device could feature a modular design as well as pancake lenses to reduce its overall size. It sounds as though we’ll learn more about the combination VR/AR device next month during CES 2023.
