AI Inclusive Forum – Adaptable Intelligence: Could Artificial Intelligence be different to other technology waves?
July 22 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm BST
In this Inclusive Artificial Intelligence (AI) Forum we will discover what could make AI different from other technology waves
Various forms of Artificial Intelligence (AI) have been at the peak of the Gartner Emerging Technologies Hype Cycle for years, kept in place by increasing investment and exciting technological developments. Will AI fall into the ‘trough of disillusionment, proving the expectations to be inflated and unrealistic, or is there something different about AI technologies? The field of computer science is markedly different to other technology fields. For a start, it’s a mostly open community with a scientific background so publishing research early is the norm. Unlike, say, Cloud Computing, the investments by large companies often benefit the whole industry and so far, regulation has been limited. Coupled with easy access to tools, and low barriers of entry into the field for developers, there is no shortage of creative ideas of what to do with AI. Investment into AI has been rising every year, partly because of the high expectations, fear of missing out and also because businesses have made commitments to collecting and storing Big Data and hope that AI can help to make sense out of it all. As Billions of IoT devices enabled by 5G produce even more data, autonomous decision making becomes necessary. Lots of data needs lots of AI!
A technology that is scaling as fast and wide as AI needs special attention. This Forum will help our attendees to understand and articulate what is unique about AI. This is intended to guide leaders from society, industry, academia and government to make better choices and apply ethical development strategies that best fit the future scope of AI.
MKAI events are inclusive. Our expert speakers are carefully chosen for their ability to make the subject approachable and comprehensible. MKAI aims to help all people improve their AI-fluency and understanding of this domain. Everyone is welcome!
This event was inspired by wonderful articles written by Kathleen Walch and Robbie Allen
Our speakers and contributors:
The eight major technology waves are: Desktop Operating Systems, Web Browsers, Networking, Social Networks, Mobile Apps, Internet of Things, Cloud Computing and Artificial Intelligence. We asked the MKAI community. What makes AI different from other technologies? They replied:
- “The openness of its research and speed of idea exchange means it can evolve and be applied much faster” Violet Snell, Head of AI at Jenoptik Traffic Solutions UK
- “It encompasses and will impact on all of the others” Gerry Copitch, Business Development Director at mmd
- “It has a low barrier and is decentralized creating the perfect scenario for fostering innovation” Gerardo Ortiz, Student Ambassador at Esade
- “Velocity and impact! Its scalability and the opaque contours of its effects make it much harder / less palatable to use our usual trial and error methods of development and implementation. It can engage our physiology in ways that are difficult for any individual to detect” Karen Silverman, CEO and Founder, The Cantellus Group
